The villa
Is Bali Retreat a hotel or a private villa?
Bali Retreat Aruba is a Bali-inspired private vacation villa, rented to one group at a time. The villa, swimming pools, cinema, gardens and other property amenities are exclusively yours during your stay.
What makes a stay at Bali Retreat different?
You have the space and amenities of a small private retreat for your own group: a heated indoor waterfall pool, outdoor Waterfall Lagoon, separate heated hot tub, private cinema, Buddha Cave, tropical gardens, beach volleyball/badminton court, open-air gym and yoga pavilion. There are six waterfalls across the property. The lagoon’s adjacent Tropical Spa Pool is a small, unheated jetted pool.
The price reflects the privacy, space and range of amenities reserved for one group throughout the stay.
How large is the property?
The house and gardens together cover approximately 18,000 square feet (1,670 square meters). That is the combined property area, not the indoor floor area.
Can we rent an individual room or just the cinema?
Bali Retreat is offered as a whole villa for one group. The cinema is included with your villa stay and is not rented separately.
Do staff live at the villa?
There are no resident staff on-site. The whole villa is private for your group, and necessary maintenance visits are coordinated in advance.
Where can we see the rooms and floor plan?
Explore the photo tour, sleeping guide and illustrated floor plan to see how the villa fits together. Bonsai Room and Zen Room share a shower bathroom and closet off their connecting hallway. Access to Zen Room is through Bonsai Room.
Who took the photographs and created the illustrations?
All photographs of Bali Retreat itself were taken by Martin and Maria. The Aruba illustrations are artistic interpretations, some adapted from photographs by other photographers. Their names, original photographs and applicable licenses are listed in our illustration credits.
Why do some photographs show a different arrangement or appearance?
The billiards table is now on the Verandah, and the indoor dining table is beside the giant pillow pit in the enclosed, air-conditioned living area. Older photographs may show the previous arrangement.
The indoor-pool pillar is clad in natural coral stone. Its texture and color, and the appearance of the translucent door panels, can look different in daylight and evening lighting. Please ask us if a particular amenity is essential to your stay.
Where can we read independent reviews?
You can read guest reviews on Google Maps and visit our Airbnb listing.
How long has Bali Retreat welcomed guests?
Our first guests arrived on January 1, 2015. The project began in 2011.
Suites & sleeping
How many bedrooms are there, and how many guests can stay?
Bali Retreat accommodates up to ten guests, excluding children under two at check-in. There are five bedrooms, with four king-size beds and two twin beds.
The Beach, Pool and Garden Suites each have a king bed and a private bathroom. Bonsai Room has a king bed; Zen Room has two twin beds. Bonsai and Zen share a shower bathroom and closet off their connecting hallway. Guests staying in Zen walk through Bonsai to reach the rest of the villa.
How are Bonsai Room and Zen Room connected?
A hallway approximately three meters long connects Bonsai Room, with its king bed, and Zen Room, with two twin beds. Each bedroom has its own lockable door onto the hallway. Their shared shower bathroom and closet open from this hallway; the bathroom door is also lockable. Each room can reach the bathroom without crossing the other sleeping room. Guests staying in Zen walk through Bonsai to reach the rest of the villa. Please consider whether this shared-bathroom and access arrangement suits your group.
Would the villa suit five couples?
Four couples can use the four king beds. Five couples would mean two couples using Bonsai Room’s king bed and Zen Room’s twin beds, sharing one shower bathroom. Guests staying in Zen walk through Bonsai to reach the rest of the villa. On request, the twin beds can be placed next to each other, but they retain separate twin mattresses and bedding. Please consider whether that privacy and bed arrangement suits your group.
Can we move beds or request an extra bed?
Beds cannot be moved between rooms. On request, we may be able to prepare an air mattress in the connected Bonsai and Zen area for someone who does not wish to share Bonsai Room’s king bed. Availability and placement within that area need confirmation. This does not increase the maximum of ten guests, excluding children under two at check-in.
Do the rooms have blackout curtains?
None of the rooms has blackout curtains. Bonsai Room has curtains and a small window, and curtains can cover its door to the indoor pool. Zen Room has a skylight that lets in bright morning light. Please do not expect a completely dark sleeping environment.
Are bedding and extra pillows provided?
Linens, pillows, blankets and spare bedding are provided. You can request extra pillows and blankets if needed.
Is there storage and a safe?
The bedrooms have closets, hangers, luggage space and bedside outlets. There are no individual bedroom safes; a shared safe is available at the property.
Which sleeping rooms are the quietest?
Garden Suite and the connected Bonsai and Zen rooms are generally the quietest sleeping areas. Pool Suite sits beside the indoor pool and may hear its waterfalls while they are on. Beach and Pool Suites are near the volleyball court and may hear people playing. Neighbor noise is not generally heard, but we cannot guarantee silence.
Bathrooms & comfort
How many bathrooms are there?
There are four full bathrooms plus the Pool Bar half bathroom, for 4.5 bathrooms in total. Beach, Pool and Garden Suites each have their own bathroom. Bonsai Room and Zen Room share the fourth full bathroom, with a shower and an entrance from their connecting hallway.
Which bathrooms are open-air?
The Beach and Pool Suite bathrooms are open-air, with high walls for visual privacy. The Beach Suite bathtub and Pool Suite shower have roof openings directly above them; the rest of each bathroom is roofed but remains open-air. Garden Suite’s bathroom and the shower bathroom shared by Bonsai and Zen are indoors and enclosed.
These tropical bathrooms are not sealed against rain or insects. We treat the property for insects and mosquitoes and can arrange another visit if you report a problem.
Do the bathrooms have hot water?
Yes. All bathrooms have hot water, and the large hot-water tank supports several people showering at the same time.
Is there a bathtub, and what are the showers like?
Beach Suite has a bathtub; the other full bathrooms have showers only. Pool Suite and the bathroom shared by Bonsai and Zen have handheld showers. There is no step into the shared bathroom or shower and no grab bars, but the villa as a whole does not have step-free access. Please discuss your access needs with us before booking.
Are towels, toiletries and hair dryers provided?
Yes. We provide bath towels, soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper and hair dryers.
How are towels, linen and mid-stay cleaning handled?
We provide two sets of bath towels and two sets of pool towels per person, plus beach towels and two sets of hand towels. Extra sets can be requested for stays longer than five nights.
When arranged, a mid-stay clean replaces towels and bed linen, includes sweeping, mopping and dusting, and cleans the suite bathrooms and outside bathroom. Ask the team which cleaning arrangements are included in your stay.
Can we adjust the bedroom temperatures?
Beach, Pool and Garden Suites each have an air-conditioning unit that can be controlled separately. Please contact us to confirm the arrangements for Bonsai Room and Zen Room. Ceiling and wall fans serve the open-air spaces. Air-conditioning use contributes to metered utilities, subject to the combined US$125-per-booked-night electricity and water cap.
Can we use the open-air spaces when it rains?
The kitchen and bathrooms remain usable during ordinary rain. Keep bathroom doors closed so bedroom air-conditioning can work effectively. For swimming, see “Can we swim when it rains?” in the related questions.
What should we expect about mosquitoes and insects?
This is a tropical property with open-air spaces. We regularly treat for insects and pests, but you may still encounter mosquitoes, insects and small lizards or geckos. Consider using insect repellent when spending time outside around sunset. We usually keep some at the villa; nearby supermarkets also sell it.
Beach, Pool and Garden Suites have mosquito nets and screen doors. The connected Bonsai and Zen area has no screen doors of its own; its entrance is beside the indoor pool, within the screened pool area.
Is there a bathroom by the outdoor pool?
There is an open-air washroom in the Pool Bar palapa with a toilet, urinal and sink. A separate outdoor shower is outside the palapa near the Waterfall Lagoon. This is not another full ensuite bathroom.
Which parts of the villa are air-conditioned?
Beach, Pool and Garden Suites, the cinema, private study, indoor dining room and giant pillow pit are enclosed and air-conditioned. Please contact us to confirm the air-conditioning arrangements for Bonsai Room and Zen Room. The entire villa is not air-conditioned.
The Verandah and its billiards area, the kitchen and gym are roofed, open-air spaces. The indoor pool is roofed, enclosed and screened, but is not air-conditioned; screening does not mean it is sealed or insect-proof.
The Beach and Pool Suite bathrooms are open-air, with roof openings above the Beach bathtub and Pool shower. Keep their doors closed so the bedrooms’ air-conditioning can work effectively. Garden Suite’s bathroom and the shower bathroom shared by Bonsai and Zen are enclosed; we do not describe them as air-conditioned. Roof coverage does not make water activities safe during lightning.
Families, visitors & access
Do children under two count toward the guest limit?
Children under two at check-in do not count toward the ten-person limit. A child who turns two during the stay keeps that exemption for the whole stay; a child who is already two at check-in counts. For visits, count staying guests and visitors present together. Permission is required before a visit would bring that counted total above ten.
Are the pools fenced, and are children’s pool aids available?
Families with children are welcome. The pools are unfenced and have no lifeguards, child-safety gates, pool alarms or covers. A responsible adult must accompany and supervise children at all times, especially near the water and the garden’s large boulders and trees.
High chairs, a Pack ’n Play and beach toys are available on request. Flotation aids, children’s life jackets and pool toys can also be supplied on request; please ask in advance rather than assuming they will already be set out.
Can you help arrange babysitting?
We can provide contacts for island babysitting services, which you arrange separately. We are also happy to help coordinate.
Is the villa suitable for guests with limited mobility?
There is no step-free route from parking to a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen or main gathering area. There is a step at the entrance, several steps down from the entry hallway to the living room, and narrow walkways beside the indoor pool. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters would have difficulty moving around the house and gardens.
There are no pool handrails, pool lift or assisted-entry arrangements. We can provide floor plans, measurements and access videos before you commit, so please tell us what you need to assess.
Can friends visit or join us for a meal or treatment?
Yes. No prior permission is needed while staying guests and visitors present together total ten or fewer, excluding children under two. Staff and approved service providers do not count as guests. If a visit would bring the counted total above ten, you must request and receive permission beforehand.
Overnight occupancy remains limited to ten guests, excluding children under two at check-in. Guests staying in the neighboring Rock Palma apartment count as visitors at Bali Retreat; that booking does not create an exception.
Can we hold a celebration or wedding reception?
We welcome peaceful celebrations, but not rowdy parties. A wedding reception requires advance discussion and approval based on the details; it is not automatically permitted. The visitor limit also applies, and any visit bringing the counted total above ten needs prior permission.
What are the quiet hours?
General quiet hours are 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Aruba local time. Outdoors, quiet use begins earlier, at 9:00 PM, and continues until 7:00 AM: avoid noisy beach volleyball, shouting, loud swimming and disruptive outdoor music, and keep the beach-court floodlight off.
Quiet swimming and hot-tub use are allowed. Cinema and karaoke may be used during these hours when their sound stays contained indoors and does not disturb neighbors. Weather and water-safety precautions still apply.
Pools & waterfalls
Is the indoor pool heated?
Yes. The indoor pool is heated by default with an inverter heat pump and is usually around 32°C, although that temperature is not guaranteed at every moment. You can adjust the temperature or switch the heating off.
There is no separate pool-heating fee. The electricity used is part of metered utilities, with a maximum combined electricity and water charge of US$125 per booked night. Unused utilities deposit is refunded.
How large and deep is the indoor pool?
The indoor pool is approximately 13 × 2.8 meters, with depths of about 1.25–1.55 meters. Its adjoining soaking area is approximately 4 × 1.4 meters and 50 centimeters deep. Entry is by steps without handrails.
Can we turn off the waterfalls or change the pool temperature?
The waterfalls have one operating level but can be switched off for quiet. You can adjust the indoor-pool temperature or turn its heater off. We show you how the controls work during the arrival walkthrough.
Can we swim during rain or a thunderstorm?
During ordinary rain, the covered indoor pool and covered hot tub offer shelter; we recommend these rather than the outdoor lagoon.
If you hear thunder or see lightning, leave all pools and the hot tub, including the covered facilities, and move to enclosed shelter. A roof does not make swimming safe during lightning. Wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder or lightning before returning to the water.
Are the pools and hot tub chlorinated?
Yes. Both pools use traditional chlorine treatment, and the hot tub is cleaned regularly and treated with chlorine powder. We do not use a salt system or a chlorine-free treatment. Please keep this in mind if you have a chlorine sensitivity; the water is not described as chemical-free or hypoallergenic.
How many pools are there, and which are heated?
There are two private swimming pools: the indoor waterfall pool and the outdoor Waterfall Lagoon. The lagoon has a connected jetted spa pool, and there is a separate Hot Tub Hut. All are exclusively for your group.
The indoor swimming pool and separate hot tub are heated. The outdoor lagoon and its connected Tropical Spa Pool are unheated. Quiet-use and thunderstorm precautions apply to all of them.
Cinema & entertainment
What is the private cinema like?
The enclosed, air-conditioned cinema has a 200-inch projection screen, surround sound and seating for twelve: eight reclining leather theater armchairs in stadium seating, plus four places at the back bar. Its seating capacity does not increase the ten-guest overnight limit.
Can we use our own streaming accounts?
Yes, through Apple TV or NVIDIA Shield (Android TV). Live cable channels are also available. Please sign out of your personal accounts before checkout to protect your privacy.
How do we operate the cinema?
Instructions are provided in the cinema. Turn on the projector with its remote, then turn on the Yamaha AV receiver and choose the HDMI input. Finally, turn on the matching device.
HDMI 1 is the cable box for live television; HDMI 2 is NVIDIA Shield (Android TV); HDMI 3 is Apple TV; HDMI 4 is shared by karaoke and the PlayStation. The AV receiver also controls volume and sound modes.
What if the picture, sound or a remote stops working?
The property manual includes a short troubleshooting guide. If you have trouble with the picture, sound, internet or a remote, message us in the WhatsApp support group and we will help you troubleshoot.
Can we connect a phone or laptop to the cinema?
You can connect by HDMI using input 4, temporarily disconnecting the karaoke or PlayStation. You can also cast through Android TV from a Windows laptop or Android phone, or through Apple TV from a Mac or iPhone. Remember to sign out of personal accounts before you leave.
What if we forget to sign out of a streaming account?
Let us know so we can sign you out. We recommend signing out before checkout to protect your privacy, because later guests may otherwise be able to use your account. There is no penalty if you forget.
Was Love in Aruba filmed here?
Yes. Bali Retreat was a filming location for parts of the 2021 romantic feature film Love in Aruba.
Gardens & recreation
Can we sleep overnight on the Sky Bed or in the garden?
We do not recommend it: these are unenclosed spaces exposed to rain and mosquitoes. Garden furniture does not add approved sleeping capacity.
Is the garden lit at night?
Yes – the garden, pools, caves and outdoor dining area are lit at night on timers. Flashlights are also provided.
Are yoga mats and Pilates equipment available?
Yoga mats and towels are provided. We offer mat Pilates, not reformer Pilates; there are no yoga blocks, straps or specialized Pilates equipment at the villa. Mats are included for yoga and mat Pilates classes arranged for Bali Retreat guests.
What sports equipment is provided?
Badminton rackets and birdies, ping-pong paddles and balls, a volleyball net and ball, and life-size chess pieces are provided. Children should be supervised in the gym and sports areas, and suitable sports shoes are recommended in the gym. Use the facilities at your own risk.
Where is the Zen Garden?
The Zen Garden is a small Japanese-style garden between the rocks and the Yoga Pavilion, viewed from the pavilion. “Bali-style” describes the character of the wider tropical garden; it is not a separate garden location.
What are the Buddha sculptures around the property?
The garden’s Buddha statuary was imported directly from Bali. In October 2026, we counted 37 Buddha heads and statues across the house and garden together, excluding paintings and other Buddha wall art.
Dining & everyday essentials
Can everyone dine together?
Yes. The enclosed, air-conditioned indoor dining table seats ten, and the outdoor dining-pavilion table seats twelve. The Verandah Bar beside the kitchen and the Pool Bar by the lagoon each seat four. There are also shaded seats and loungers throughout the property.
Dining capacity does not increase the guest or visitor limit. Children under two at check-in are excluded from the ten-person count; visits bringing the counted total above ten require prior permission.
Can we cook our own meals and use a barbecue?
Yes. You can use the equipped kitchen, outdoor barbecue and dining pavilion.
Can we have food or groceries delivered?
Yes. Many places deliver food to the villa, and groceries can also be ordered. Use the address Bali Retreat Aruba, Paraguana 7, Noord, Aruba.
Is there a washer and dryer?
Guests can use the laundry room in the Pool Bar palapa, with a washer, dryer and detergent. An iron and ironing board are in the cleaning closet. Laundry use contributes to metered utilities, subject to the combined US$125-per-booked-night electricity and water cap.
What kind of electrical outlets does the villa have?
The villa has US-style outlets. Standard US plugs do not need an adapter. If you are bringing appliances from another country, check both plug and electrical compatibility before using them.
Is there a full kitchen?
Yes. The full-size kitchen is roofed and open-air. It includes a stove, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, pots, pans, cooking utensils, dinnerware and wine glasses. There is also an outdoor BBQ and dining pavilion.
Location & getting around
Where is Bali Retreat, and is it beachfront?
The address is Paraguana 7, in a residential neighborhood of Noord, Aruba. The villa is inland, not beachfront, and does not offer direct walking access to the beach.
How far are the beaches and airport?
Palm Beach and Eagle Beach are roughly 8–10 minutes away by car. Oranjestad and Alto Vista Chapel are around ten minutes away, and the airport-to-villa drive is approximately 12–15 minutes. These are approximate driving estimates, not guarantees; traffic, route and exact destination affect the journey.
Where can we find the map pin and airport directions?
Use the villa’s Google Maps pin or the airport-to-villa route below. The destination is Bali Retreat Aruba, Paraguana 7, Noord.
Is there covered parking?
The roofed carport beside the main entrance accommodates two vehicles and lets you enter the villa under shelter. It is open to the street, not an enclosed garage. Additional vehicles may use nearby street parking without blocking traffic, but those spaces are not reserved or guaranteed.
Can we walk to nearby shops and restaurants?
We do not recommend walking to the stores because the roads lack sidewalks. Nearby shops, Wendy’s and local restaurants are about two minutes away by car.
Where should we check Aruba’s entry requirements?
Check the official Aruba ED Card website and Aruba tourism website for current entry and travel requirements that apply to you.
Transfers & optional services
Are villa services arranged by the Bali Retreat team?
Yes. Bali Retreat and the Aruba Your Way service network are both owned by Maria and Martin, so you can arrange everything directly with us. As our villa guests, you receive our highest priority and personal attention throughout your stay.
Our Bali Retreat team takes care of airport transfers and island outings through Aruba Airport Transfers and Aruba Sightseeing Tours. For relaxation at the villa, Aruba Massage & Spa brings you treatments with our regular massage therapist. Through Private Chef in Aruba, you can choose meals prepared by our own home cook or a dining experience with one of the island chefs we work with.
Simply tell us what you have in mind, and we’ll coordinate the details for you. These optional services are charged separately and subject to availability.
Can you arrange airport transfers or a private driver?
Yes. Our team can arrange airport pickup, sightseeing tours and other transportation. These services are optional, subject to availability and priced separately. The person who meets you at the airport may also check you in, but that is not guaranteed. Airport-transfer prices and vehicle arrangements follow Aruba Airport Transfers.
Can ten guests and their luggage travel in one van?
Ten airport passengers require two passenger vans under Aruba Airport Transfers’ current vehicle rules. Tell us about unusual baggage or mobility equipment before booking so the vehicle arrangement can be confirmed.
Can we stop for groceries during an airport transfer?
A standard airport transfer is a point-to-point ride with luggage; grocery shopping and waiting are not included. We can discuss two transfers, a private-driver booking or another specifically agreed arrangement and confirm its price. Prices and vehicle arrangements match Aruba Airport Transfers’ current rates.
Where will our driver meet us at the villa?
For Aruba Airport Transfers, the driver waits outside the villa’s main entrance. Agree the specific pickup details with your driver or our team.
What if our group arrives or leaves on different flights?
Tell us the flight times and whether you prefer to wait and travel together. Separately scheduled arrivals or departures are quoted as separate transfers, using each ride’s route, passengers, luggage and vehicle needs. Extra stops or arrangements must be agreed in advance.
Can we request child seats or bring mobility equipment?
Tell us the child’s age and seat type needed in advance, and confirm availability through the transfer service. Also describe mobility equipment and luggage so the team can check space and suitability. A particular child seat or accessible vehicle is not guaranteed without confirmation.
Can you help with restaurants and island experiences?
Yes. We can suggest beach clubs and island experiences and help with restaurant reservations. There is no fee for this planning assistance.
Planning & payments
What is the best way to book Bali Retreat?
Book directly through our website for our best prices and the easiest booking experience. If you prefer another platform, you can also book through our listings on Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com.
Can I pay for a direct booking by bank transfer?
Yes. Contact Maria to confirm the amount and receive our bank details before sending your payment.
Can I pay for a direct booking with cryptocurrency?
Yes. We accept USDC and BTC. Contact Maria for the amount and wallet address before sending your payment.
How soon should we expect a quote?
We generally aim to send a quote within 24 hours. Occasionally it may take longer; this is our response target rather than a guaranteed deadline.
Can we join a cancellation list or ask about nearby dates?
Yes. You can ask to join a cancellation list or request suggestions for nearby available dates. This does not guarantee that dates will become available.
Are electricity and water included in the nightly rate?
For direct bookings: Electricity and water are metered separately. The utilities deposit is US$125 per booked night, included in your accommodation quote. It is also the maximum combined electricity and water charge.
Readings at check-in and checkout determine actual use. If it costs less than the deposit, we refund the unused amount. If it costs more, you pay no excess. Air-conditioning, laundry, pool heating and hot-tub use contribute to consumption, but the same cap applies.
Airbnb utilities are included in the accommodation price rather than charged through this separate direct-booking utilities deposit.
What unit rates are used for utilities?
For direct bookings: Electricity is charged at US$0.39 per kWh and water at US$9.37 per cubic meter. These fixed guest rates are set by us and change infrequently. The combined charge is capped at US$125 per booked night, and unused utilities deposit is refunded.
Airbnb utilities are included in the accommodation price rather than charged through this separate direct-booking utilities deposit.
How and when is unused utilities deposit returned?
For direct bookings: After deducting actual metered use, we refund the unused balance to the original credit card or alternatively through Zelle. If use equals or exceeds the deposit, there is no refund, but there is no extra utilities charge.
We usually send the reconciliation within 48 hours. Card refunds may take seven to ten business days to appear; Zelle refunds are generally immediate.
Airbnb utilities are included in the accommodation price rather than charged through this separate direct-booking utilities deposit.
How are payments processed?
Card payments are processed securely by Stripe.
Will we receive a receipt or itemized invoice?
Yes. Receipts are issued immediately or within a few hours, and no later than 24 hours after payment. Itemized invoices are available, and billing details can be corrected.
Accommodation payments appear as Bali Retreat Aruba on statements. Additional services may appear as Brummell and Fogg LLC.
Can we change guest names or the number of guests?
Names can change, and changing the guest count within the ten-person overnight limit does not change the accommodation price. Children under two at check-in are excluded from that count. Please let the team know your group’s details; visits bringing the counted total above ten still require prior permission.
Arrival & help during your stay
Will someone show us how everything works?
Yes. Your host gives you a personal arrival walkthrough, including the waterfalls, pool heater, cinema, hot tub and where to find recreation equipment. We send a written property guide before arrival, and cinema video instructions are available through WhatsApp.
Please raise cleanliness concerns during check-in. If you discover a problem or missing item later, message the team on WhatsApp so we can address it.
What should we do in an emergency?
For a medical emergency, fire or immediate security threat, call 911 first. Give the address: Bali Retreat Aruba, Paraguana 7, Noord, Aruba. Follow the dispatcher’s instructions and notify our local team when safe. Do not wait for a host or online reply.
Move away from smoke, suspected gas leaks or electrical hazards and leave by a safe route. If gas is suspected, avoid flames and electrical switches, and make calls from a safe location away from the suspected leak. Do not touch electrical equipment near water or attempt repairs. Report significant leaks, flooding or urgent access problems to the local team promptly.
What are check-in and checkout times?
Check-in is at 4:00 PM and checkout is by 11:00 AM, Aruba local time. Only the 4:00 PM check-in time is guaranteed.
You may request early check-in or late checkout, but either needs express confirmation from the team. Occasionally the villa is ready by 3:00 PM if its condition and completed cleaning allow; this is an exception, not a promise. Late checkout depends on bookings and scheduled work.
