BOOKING TERMS

Important things to know before you book

CANCELLATION POLICY

  1. Free cancellation within 48 hours of booking.

  2. If a guest cancels a reservation more than 30 days prior to check-in, he/she may either reschedule to a different future date (pending availability) or receive a 50% refund of the booking amount.

  3. If a guest cancels less than 30 days before check-in, he/she forfeits the accommodation fee in full (no option to reschedule).

To protect yourself, please make sure to purchase travel insurance for the duration of your trip - for a few dollars per day, you’ll be fully covered in case you need to cancel your trip.

ADDITIONAL FEES

  1. Check-Out Cleaning Fee: $390

  2. Aruba Tourist Tax (12.5% + $3/night). A week before your arrival, we’ll send you a payment request for this which you can pay by credit card or Zelle, or in cash during check-in.

  3. Utilities: We take electric and water meter readings during check-in and again during checkout and the usage is charged at $0.37/kWh of electricity and $8.93/m3 of water.

Please keep in mind that as a small island in the Caribbean, electricity and water are a lot more expensive than in the US. The average utility cost for our guests has been around $65/day when all four bedrooms are occupied, but the cost can be higher or lower depending on your usage of the air-conditioning. The use of the indoor pool heater adds about $5/day, though most guests find the water warm enough and never turn it on

$500 SECURITY & $500 UTILITY DEPOSIT

One week before your arrival, we’ll send you a payment request for the deposit which will be used to pay for utilities you use during your stay and as a security deposit for accidental damages. The balance will be refunded to you within 48 hours after the checkout.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENT

There are four bedrooms in the retreat:

  1. Pool Suite - sleeps two adults (king-size bed) with a private open-air bathroom

  2. Beach Suite - sleeps two adults (king-size bed) with a private open-air bathroom

  3. Garden Suite - sleeps two adults (king-size bed) with a private enclosed bathroom

  4. Guest Room - sleeps up to four people (king-size, a full-size, and a twin trundle bed).

The Guest Room does not have an ensuite bathroom - we suggest sharing the ensuite bathroom in the Beach Suite as it has two entrances. The Guest Room is ideal for children, teenagers, or a small family, who are not looking for the extra touches of luxury that the three suites offer.

TROPICAL LIVING

The kitchen and the dining areas are open-air to take advantage of the beautiful Aruban weather. All four bedrooms, the office, the cinema, the sunken living room (pillow pit), and the billiard room can be fully enclosed and air-conditioned. The indoor pool is completely screened in. However, the retreat is designed for people who enjoy the outdoors. While Aruba has far fewer mosquitos than the rest of the Caribbean or Florida - thanks to its arid climate and rare precipitation - they do still exist. We fumigate and spray against mosquitoes three times per week, just like the beach resorts, and that takes care of most of them, but you should still use a good bug spray, especially in the mornings and evenings when mosquitos feed.

SMALL CHILDREN

Bali Retreat is very popular with families with children and we have never had anything bad to happen to anyone, but please make sure that small children are under constant supervision as the pools have no safety fencing and there are large trees and boulders to climb on (and fall down from) in the garden.

HOUSE RULES

Please make sure they are acceptable to you and to your group

4 NIGHTS PER BOOKING MINIMUM

Four nights is the minimum length per reservation, but if there are only two or three nights available between existing bookings on the dates you’d like to visit, please contact us.

MAXIMUM 10 GUESTS PER BOOKING

Our insurance does not cover us if more than ten people occupy the retreat. For this reason, we cannot accept any parties larger than ten people (children under two years do not count).

LIMIT ON OUTSIDE GUESTS

Due to the terms of our insurance policy and local fire-safety laws, no more than ten people may be present at any one time in the house. So if you are a party of six, for example, you may invite up to four outside guests to visit you at a time. If you are a party of ten, you cannot have any outside guests.

NO PARTIES

We welcome peaceful family celebrations, but any gatherings where the sole purpose is partying and drinking, such as spring breaks, bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc, are strictly not allowed and will not be checked-in.

NO NOISE AFTER 10PM

Bali Retreat is located in a very quiet residential neighborhood and our neighbors do not want to be disturbed by loud music or other noise. Local laws forbid any noise between 10pm and 6am, please respect it (on our cul-de-sac lives the Chief of Police, a district judge, and a government lawyer, so you may be certain that police will be called).

NO SMOKING

Smoking in any indoor space of the retreat is strictly forbidden and will result in an extra $500 cleaning fee. If you smoke in the garden, please make sure to use the ashtray provided and dispose of your ash and cigarette butts safely due to the high risk of fire.

NO CANDLES OR FIRES

Live fires are not allowed anywhere on the property due to the extremely high fire risk in the arid climate of Aruba and the abundance of wood, trees, and dry palm fronds in the property. Please do not light candles or make bonfires and only dispose of cigarette butts in an ashtray, never throw them on the ground in the garden.

Every year, there are several deadly fires on the island, usually in vacation rentals, caused by candles, bonfires or careless disposal of cigarette butts. Please be careful and vigilant about fire safety.
